The Lion and The Lamb Pt.6

The Lion and The Lamb Part 6

One foot after another I stepped in to the forest again, there was a peace that overcame me as like listening to the sounds of the waves of an ocean. These hedges covered up the darkness of the forest around me, the leaves of this shrubbery individually was glowing but altogether the glow lit the path to which I was walking. The green of the hedges was like the color of a well watered plant, there was life in its roots to its leaves. It acted as if it was alive, the branches moved constantly as if they were gears in a clock working and moving. Every so often I would hear something hit the hedge on the other side of it, causing me to jump with every blow.

The dove was always ahead of me, it would fly up to a branch to which was ahead of me and would wait for me to catch up. There was a certain kind of comfort seeing this pure white dove doing what it was doing. As I went along the path the canopy of the trees began to thin out, letting in more and more light. I could feel the warmth of the sun through the patchy canopy. The more I walked down the path the more I noticed that the canopy started to split up as if the trees were growing farther apart. My eyes followed the parting canopy to the end of the forest, I saw an opening between the trees to which I saw blue sky past the trees that were down this narrow path.

Anticipation of getting to the end of this forest began to well up in my chest, I could feel the excitement and adrenaline pumping through my body. I began to walk faster, the walking turned into jogging, and jogging turned into running. Once I started running the dove attempted to tell me to slow down and follow Him but I wouldn't listen. Getting to the end of this dark forest seemed like it was taking forever but I didn’t notice that the hedges were not there. Finally I was getting close to the opening, I closed my eyes for just a moment to enjoy the warmth of the sun but it was abruptly interrupted by hearing howling and yipping. It was those dark beasts, before I could react, I felt something hit the back of my legs causing me to trip and fall. During my fall, I could tell that I was no longer in the forest but before I knew it I landed in a pit of mud.

This mud was cold and slimy and I was covered in it. I was ashamed of not listening to the dove, because I knew that if I would have slowed down I would have seen this pit of mud before I would of fallen into it. Now this pit wasn’t very deep, I was wrist deep in this miry pit. The texture was utterly disgusting, it was slimy like the moss that grows in a river and a lukewarm coldness of a glass of water at room temperature. Nothing about this pit felt good. My shame just grew more, the longer I sat there I felt more stupid. I looked out from the mud and saw the tree line of the forest and saw there was no more hedges coming from the path.

I then figured out why I was even more in this pit of disgusting, slimey, luke warm mud. It was because of my over excitement I ran past the dove and the hedge that was protecting me. They were only there when the dove was going before me. As I was beating myself up, mentally that is, I saw some dark creatures come from the treeline of the forest. They came rushing after me and surrounded me, they just walked around the pit staring at me like a dog drools at a piece of meat. I noticed that the creatures were in the shapes of wolves and hyenas, only thing was that they had deep black fur. The hyenas yipped with a dark laugh and the wolves had evil grins as they lowly growled.

“Look a failure.” one of the hyena said with decrepit voice.

“Yes, a utter mistake.” one of the wolves said with a deep, dark whisper.

I sat there in fear, my heart drop when I heard this exchange of statements. As these monsters spoke the others around them seemed to whisper to each other the same things over and over.

“No, that’s not true!” I said as I tried to defend myself with tears starting to well up in eyes.

“Oh, look the mistake is trying to defend itself.” the hyena mocked me with it’s yipping laugh.

“Poor little sheep,” the dark wolf started to attack me verbally, “so utterly alone.”

“Shut up!” I yelled at them crying in desperation, “go away!”

“This little sheep is so helpless.” the hyena stated as he drooled profusely.

As these beast of darkness started to get more intense and they started to close in, I curled myself up again into the fetal position, just like when I was attacked in the hallway. I opened my eyes one more time and I saw the dove perched on a branch just on the edge of that dark forest to which these dark beast came from. There was a warm breeze and the moment seemed to pause.

“Remember you are not alone,” I heard a whisper in the breeze.

The beast seemed to have slowed down along with the moment.

“Call on the Name of the Lamb,” the whisper came again.

“Lamb…” I started to say.

The air around me was full of a mix hot and cold. I looked at the beasts surrounding me and the evil intent of devouring me.

“Lamb…” I cried out with all my tears, “save me, please!”

There was a silence in the air, the beasts seemed to pause in their tracks. Fear was in their soulless eyes. I had seen nothing like this, I was in awe of this moment as I heard the roar of a lion! The dark beasts scoured as if they were about to be devoured by what had done this roar. Their howling and yipping fade away as they ran back into the forest to which they came. A peaceful silence came along with The Lamb, as He came into my view from the corner of my eye. The Lamb came to the edge of the miry pit to which I had fell into.

There was this look of kindness He had in His eyes, like the kindness of a Father. I bowed my head in disgrace and I felt a gentle hand lift my head and it felt like I was picked up out of this pit I was wallowing in. It was indescribable about how I was no longer in the muddy pit but now was on my knees in front of the Lamb. The look He gave me was not one of disgrace but of forgiveness, like He knew my mistake but He didn’t care.
